Bacteriostatic water is sterile, non-pyrogenic water that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol content acts to inhibit (or “static-block”) the growth of bacteria in the solution, allowing the same vial to be used multiple times under proper sterile conditions. BAC water is commonly supplied in sealed multi-dose vials for use in research, laboratory, and compounding environments.
